Advisor to the Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Simic said today that the beginning of a discussion on the status of Kosovo-Metohija at the UN Security Council is a good sign because the proposal of UN Special Envoy Martti Ahtisaari was supported only by a few member states.

In a statement to B92 television, Simic said that it is also good that that the Security Council did not give the floor to Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu and that Ahtisaari's mandate was also discussed - whether his task is to deal with the sovereignty of a state or to mediate in finding a solution for the status of a Serbian province.
He said that most important is the fact that the issue of standards has returned to the agenda, and added that the Russian proposal will be accepted which says that a mission of the UN Security Council should be sent to Kosovo-Metohija that would examine the implementation of standards.
We have to see how that Russian proposal will finally be structured, and in which form the Security Council will accept the proposal of sending a mission to the province, said Simic.
