Speaking on talks between Ban Ki-moon and Kostunica held today prior to the session of the UN Security Council, advisor to the Serbian Prime Minister and coordinator in the state team for negotiations on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija Slobodan Samardzic outlined in a statement to Tanjug news agency that Kostunica said it is possible to reach a compromise which would not bring international law into question.
Samardzic added that Kostunica pointed to the fact that Ahtisaari’s plan opens the doors to independence for Kosovo-Metohija, and will lead to the establishment of a new Albanian country on the territory of Serbia, which borders with Albania and such a development could have regional and global consequences.
At the same time, Samardzic said that the Serbian delegation reiterated its original stand on the occasion by rejecting Ahtisaari’s plan since it violates the UN Charter and the UN SC Resolution 1244.
The UN General Secretary briefly stated his position to the Serbian delegation by saying once again that he supports Ahtisaari’s concept of resolving the crisis, adding that further procedure and decisions are in the hands of the UN Security Council, Samardzic explained.
