Serbian Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Zoran Loncar, who is currently in Athens chairing a ministerial meeting of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) member countries, said that public administration reform in Serbia is in line with general European standards.

In a phone statement to the Beta news agency, Loncar stated that he briefed the gathering on the reform in Serbia and announced that the next ministerial meeting of BSEC member countries will take place on April 19 in Belgrade.
He said that public administration reached a level which is a basis for the European Commission to declare that Serbia has a satisfactory administrative capacity and has made progress in creating the legal framework for this area.
BSEC is among the first generation of regional organisations and today it is celebrating its 15th anniversary, said the Minister and added that BSEC has proved a good cooperation mechanism with the aim of promoting peace, stability and economic development in the Black Sea region and the Balkans.
Loncar said that the focal point of the meeting in Athens is public administration and the aim is to promote cooperation and exchange experiences in the area of public administration, as well as to raise awareness of citizens on this matter in all countries of the region.
He also acquainted BSEC ministers with the fact that since the end of 2004 seven very important laws along with 24 by-laws were adopted on the basis of the Serbian government’s Public Administration Reform Strategy.
The Minister also spoke on depolitisation and profesionalisation of public administration in Serbia which is due to be completed by early July.
Loncar also presented the reform of salary system in public administration under the new Law on salaries of civil servants and the onset of the e-government project.
