Price increase of electric power postponed by June 1

Assistant Minister of Trade, Tourism and Services Srdjan Sreckovic announced that the Serbian government decided to postpone price increase of electric power by June 1.
Sreckovic told Tanjug that the price increase will be less than required 21.5% as citizens’ living standard is to be considered too.
He recalled that Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) asked for 21.5% price increase as of April 1, which is not in accordance with macro-economic policy for 2007.
According to Sreckovic, the projected GDP growth is 7%, inflation should be 7.5%, so the price increase of electricity will certainly be below 21.5%.
He also said that the price of electric power in Serbia is twice to three times smaller than in the region, amounting to 4.2 eurocents per kilowatt-hour.
