Serbian Assistant Minister of Energy and Mining Slobodan Sokolovic said today that the energy ministers of Serbia, Romania, Croatia, Slovenia and Italy will sign on April 3 in Zagreb a ministerial declaration supporting the project of constructing the pan-European oil pipeline.
In a statement to the news agency Beta, Sokolovic said that the ministerial declaration will be the first document which will allow work on the development of the project of constructing the pan-European oil pipeline.
He said that the signing ceremony will be attended by EU Commissioner for Energy Andris Piebalgs, adding that that is very significant fact since it shows the stand of the EU regarding the construction of the pan-European oil pipeline, as an important move in supplying the EU with oil.
According to Sokolovic, the importance of the ministerial declaration is that after three years of negotiations governments of five countries are entering the final phase in which it is expected that intensive work will be done on preparing the documents necessary for beginning the construction.
Sokolovic stated that the project is expected to be completed after 2011.
He said that the Slovenian energy minister will also sign this declaration, even though Slovenia has still not decided if the pipeline will go through the country. He added that the construction of the pipeline will not be affected by that decision.
Sokolovic explained that the signing of the ministerial declaration will be followed by drafting and signing of agreements regarding mutual obligations between signatory countries, the founding of a development company and later a company for managing the oil pipeline.
