Visa relaxations are part of an agreement between the EU and Serbia, which should be signed in autumn and it should come into force at the end of this year.
According to Miscevic, the agreement could be initialed as soon as early April.
Following technical talks between the Serbian government delegation and the European Commission held today in Brussels, Miscevic said that she was pleasantly surprised by the fact that the European Commission accepted a great number of proposals presented by the Serbian delegation.
She said that in addition to the agreement on giving free visas, the category of citizens who will be given visa relaxations was expanded and the number of documents needed for the visas have been reduced to a large extent.
The visa relaxations will be valid for students, professors and science workers. Other categories of citizens eligible for the relaxed regime will include functionaries in religious communities, independent businesspeople, pensioners and journalists, said Miscevic.
She explained that the main documents required for visa relaxations will be proof of the visa applicant’s status and letter or proof of justified intent for travelling to EU countries.
The Serbian government’s delegation continued negotiations this afternoon with representatives of the European Commission on the readmission agreement.
