Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said today that the Serbian government strongly supports Russia’s initiative that the negotiating process on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija be continued.
Kostunica told Tanjug news agency that the decision of UN Special Envoy Martti Ahtisaari to stop negotiations and to send his proposal to the UN was utterly wrong as there is not a single precondition for his proposal to be discussed by the UN Security Council.
The Serbian Prime Minister explained that it is for this reason that the Serbian government strongly supports the initiative of Russia to start new negotiations with a new mediator appointed by the UN and added that this is based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244.
Serbia will participate in the new negotiating process in a constructive way and take its part of responsibility to find a compromise and just solution for Kosovo, Kostunica stressed.
