Serbian government convinced that UN SC will not violate UN Charter

Director of the Serbian government's Office of Media Relations Srdjan Djuric said today that the Serbian government is convinced that the Security Council will not violate the UN Charter and bring a decision to tear Serbia into pieces and seize a significant part of its territory.

Djuric told the Tanjug news agency that among Security Council members, there are countries that have a responsible attitude and the power to protect fundamental principles on which peace and stability in the world are based.
We are sure that those states will prevent making a dangerous precedent of redrawing borders of sovereign states and snatching away parts of their territories, which has already raised concerns in a number of countries, Djuric said.
He said that UN Special Envoy Martti Ahtisaari made a serious mistake by rashly cutting short negotiations on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija and completely aligned himself with the Albanian side.
It is obvious that Ahtisaari did not manage, or perhaps it was not his intention at all, to enable a dialogue that would lead the two sides to a compromise. Therefore, it was inevitable that he would not be successful in his task.
The Director of the Office of Media Relations said that Serbia should use the time ahead of us to start a new negotiating process which would be conducted in the right way and lead to a compromise solution.
