Coordinator of the Serbian state negotiating team for talks on Kosovo-Metohija's future status Slobodan Samardzic stated last night that UN Special Envoy Martti Ahtisaari did not adopt any of Belgrade's amendments which prevent the province's independence, therefore his status proposal is of no significance to Belgrade.
In a statement to the Serbian Radio Television RTS, Samardzic said that changes to Ahtisaari's proposal are minor and insignificant, adding that the UN Special Envoy mostly accepted Albanian proposals.
He said that Ahtisaari disregarded over 200 well-argumented objections submitted by the Serbian team and composed a document which leads towards independence of the southern Serbian province.
According to Samardzic, this round of talks is over because Ahtisaari did not want to compose a compromise resolution. He also added that only additional talks could place the Serbian and ethnic Albanian sides on an equal footing.
Samardzic also announced that
at today's meeting, the negotiating team will decide on who will represent Serbia when the talks in Vienna resume on March 10, adding that in his opinion these should be the Serbian Prime Minister and President, Vojislav Kostunica and Boris Tadic respectively.
Samardzic said that there are no conditions for Serbian parliament to declare itself on the proposal because it did not conclude its first constitutive session and parliament speaker has not yet been appointed. He added however that following the negotiating team's meeting, heads of parliamentary groups will be notified on Vienna talks and Ahtisaari's proposal.
