Serbian Deputy Minister of Economy Mihailo Vesovic announced today that the Ministry will announce a public call to award funds for supporting clusters in Serbia, noting that amounts by individual project will total up to €80,000.
In a Serbian-Slovenian cluster meeting, Vesovic said that priority will be given to those clusters that are engaged on promoting export and joining the international network of suppliers.
According to him, the project will be co-financed by the Norwegian government.
Currently there are four clusters in Serbia, Vesovic said and added that the Ministry expects that a total of 10 clusters will operate in Serbia by 2010.
Head of the Department for Promotion of Competitiveness and Cooperation with International Institutions at the Ministry of Economy Zorica Maric said that this Ministry started a project in cooperation with the Slovenian Ministry of Economy in order to promote the network of car industry suppliers in Serbia.
She recalled that the setting up of clusters in Serbia began in 2005 and added that 130 companies are members of clusters.
Maric noted that 16 universities are also involved in clusters whereas 35 projects have been started.
The Serbian-Slovenian cluster meeting was organised by the Slovenian Ministry of Economy, the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS) and the Serbian Ministry of Economy.
The aim of the meeting is to present Slovenian experience and to define potential joint projects, possibilities of EU-financing as well as to build competitiveness of Serbian clusters and to connect local companies with Slovenian business partners.
