In a statement to the Tanjug news agency, Kostunica pointed out that UN Special Envoy Martti Ahtisaari, prior to the continuation of the negotiations in Vienna, is announcing that serious talks and reaching compromise are unattainable and that he will forward his proposal to the UN Security Council.
Such Ahtisaari's decision has its good sides as well, since the Security Council will undoubtedly reject his proposal because the UN cannot seize the territory of one of its member countries, stressed Kostunica.
He recalled that there are a number of states in the world today determined to preserve the founding principles on which peace and the entire international order are founded. Kostunica added that two of such states, namely Russia and China, are permanent members of the UN Security Council.
He also said that Ahtisaari's definite failure would now indeed represent a turning point and open the road to real negotiations and a compromise solution.
This solution implies the respect of Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, along with which the appropriate level of autonomy for Kosovo-Metohija within Serbia will be found, concluded Kostunica.
