Permanent advisor at the Serbian state negotiating team for negotiations on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija and Director of the Swiss Institute of Federalism Thomas Fleiner said today that the outcome of negotiations on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija depends on the negotiating parties, while the international mediator, be it Martti Ahtisaari or someone else, should only monitor the process.

Fleiner told the state television that the problem is that so far there have been no real negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina and that is why a compromise could not have been found and recalled a part of negotiations conducted on Kosovo status in July last year in Vienna.
During those talks, both Serbian President Boris Tadic and Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said that Serbia is ready for a compromise, but Ahtisaari responded to that "I don't want to hear the word "compromise", but the word "solution.""
Fleiner concluded that in this way no solution can be reached, because a solution must be a creation made by negotiating parties, and not the mediators.
