The National Council for cooperation with the International Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) stated that at its 39th session held today, it brought a decision to submit extensive documentation on 28 requests by the ICTY Prosecutor's Office, and release 54 witnesses from the obligation of keeping official secrets in the trials before the tribunal.
According to the statement, the National Council has responded positively to 12 requests by the defence, which regard submitting documentation necessary for preparing defence of indictees.
At today’s session, the National Council responded to the largest number of requests made thus far by the ICTY Prosecutor’s Office concerning releasing witnesses from the obligation of keeping official secrets, submission of documents to the Prosecutor’s Office, as well as submission of documents to the defence.
The National Council will continue to respond to requests from the ICTY Prosecutor's Office and the defence lawyers in a timely manner, with the aim of establishing full cooperation and fulfilling international obligations to this court, the statement adds.
