Simic told a press conference that this is the 22nd prevention centre opened as part of the health ministry's project "Improvement of Health Services in Serbia", financed by the EU through the EAR.
According to Simic, these centres are envisaged to encourage activities aimed at prevention of diabetes, cardiovascular and malignant diseases where early detection is a priority in the Ministry of Health's work agenda.
Simic explained that Sombor citizens will be able to have free-of-charge medical checks here as well as get useful advice regarding health care, giving up smoking, reducing body weight and similar.
White said that in the past six years, the EU invested around €1 billion in Serbia's development, adding that large funds went into the energy sector, entrepreneurship, health, education, agriculture and the judiciary.
The EAR invested €100 million in the health centre alone, stressed White adding that due to cross border cooperation, the municipality of Sombor will be given funds for another six projects with partners from neighbouring Hungary.
