Jankovic stressed that the Prime Minister has rejected the proposal of UN Special Envoy for Kosovo-Metohija Martti Ahtisaari as his document envisions independence for Kosovo, with Kosovo’s insignia, army and place in the UN.
As this is only a draft, we will not leave the negotiating process. Serbia will use all diplomatic, political and legal means to defend its territorial integrity, Jankovic said.
He underlined that the province’s independence would mean violation of the UN Charter and the UN Security Council’s Resolution 1244.
If some countries or the EU acknowledge Kosovo-Metohija’s independence, there is a series of diplomatic steps to be taken, including the questioning of bilateral relations with some countries.
As for the autonomy, we are ready for maximum compromise, said Jankovic. The Albanians would have absolute power, which would make two systems within one state. in short, we are ready to accept everything except Kosovo’s seat in the UN and its own armed forces, he said.
