United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan has told the Security Council that he plans to appoint Danish diplomat Soren Jessen-Petersen of Denmark as the new head of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).

Jessen-Petersen will replace Harri Holkeri who resigned last month, citing health reasons.
Jessen-Petersen, who is currently the European Union’s Special Representative in Macedonia, also held various positions at the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the UN Secretariat.
Jessen-Petersen is a lawyer and journalist by training. He is married and has four children.
