In a joint statement it is stated that a certain, lesser number of unresolved issues will be discussed during the 3rd and probably the last round of talks, planned for March 2007.
The talks between the EU and Serbia on these issues will resume as planned, reads the statement and adds that EU intends to conclude agreements with Serbia and other Western Balkan states on time so that they could be ratified and enforced by end-2007.
The aim of these agreements is to facilitate the visa regime for citizens who wish to stay abroad for shorter periods of time, as well as to improve the fight against illegal immigration.
The negotiations refer to issues such as the costs of visas, the issuing of multiple-entry visas, shortening the period for granting visas as well as simplification of the documentation required.
When it comes to readmission, the aim of the talks is to determine mutual obligations and procedures necessary for organising the return of people who are illegally on the territory of a state which is a member of this agreement.
These negotiations were preceded by the decision of the Council of the European Union from November 13, 2006 which authorised the European Commission to negotiate on the conclusion of the Agreement on Visa Relaxations and the Single Readmission Agreement with Western Balkans states.
