Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica stressed today at a meeting with Austrian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ursula Plassnik that the solution for Kosovo-Metohija must be sought within the framework of international law and the UN Charter, whose basic principle is inviolability of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Kostunica stressed that substantial autonomy for Kosovo-Metohija, within the borders of Serbia, is the solution which is based on respect of international law and European standards.
The Serbian Prime Minister pointed to the fact that a viable solution for Kosovo-Metohija can only be found through compromise by both sides, and stressed that compromise can only be reached through negotiations, but that they have not been held during the past six months.
He added that only one meeting was held in Vienna which was attended by UN Special Envoy Marti Ahtisaari.
Kostunica and Ursula Plassnik jointly stated that Serbia and Austria have good relations and especially noted that economic cooperation between the two countries is very important.
