head of the economic team for Kosovo-Metohija and the south of Serbia Nenad Popovic stated today in Zvecan that with its production, personnel and organisational capacities, the mining, metallurgical and chemical complex Trepca is the backbone of the sustainable development of Serb communities in Kosovo-Metohija.
Having visited the complex, Popovic said that Trepca is not only an economic segment in the province, but also has a huge social, political and security role there.
He added that in the Strategy of Long-Term Economic Development of Serb communities in Kosovo, Trepca is marked as the backbone of the economic system of Serb communities there, which is why the economic team wants to draft a long-term restructuring plan in the upcoming period, together with all resource ministries and primarily with the Trepca management.
Popovic stressed that Trepca cannot be restructured properly without support from all resource ministries as well as assistance from all those who should take part in this process.
Popovic afterwards held a meeting with the Trepca management where he was briefed on the results achieved in 2006 and plans for next year.
The head of the economic team announced a 30% salary rise for employees in the mining sector.
