Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said today in a meeting with Slovenian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dimitrij Rupel that in seeking solution to Kosovo-Metohija’s future status the fundamental principle of the UN Charter must be respected, that is, preservation of sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.
Kostunica said that a solution to Kosovo can only be found through dialogue and compromise, with respect of international law and European standards. He also stressed that solution lies in the essential autonomy for Kosovo-Metohija within Serbia.
The Prime Minister pointed out that Kosovo is not and cannot be an exception, adding that there are more and more countries advocating respect and inviolability of basic principles of international law. Those countries warn that there must be no exceptions, Kostunica highlighted.
Rupel said that the EU has lately seen the Kosovo-Metohija issue more rationally and added that bilateral relations between Serbia and Slovenia are good. He said that trade between the two countries has been increased manifold.
Kostunica stressed that Serbia has seen significant and undeniable economic progress and recalled that foreign investments exceeded four billion dollars, with GDP growth of 6.5%.
The Prime Minister said that realisation of large projects such as building the gas pipeline through Serbia and the Horgos-Pozega highway will start this year.
During the meeting, Kostunica and Rupel pledged for liberalisation of the visa regime between the two countries.
