Popovic said that he is very much honoured for being invited by head of the Russian Orthodox Church Alexey the Second to attend a Christmas morning service in the largest Orthodox country in the world. He added that he feels this invitation as one more form of support which Russia gives to the Serbian people.
The Head of the Economic team said that at this moment, the principled position of the Russian Federation, supported by the Russian Orthodox Church, is the most important for Serbia, and this is that independence of Kosovo-Metohija is unacceptable and that the best solution is to give it the widest form of autonomy within Serbia.
In addition to being the greatest family holiday among Orthodox believers, Christmas is also the day of universal reconciliation and forgiveness, Popovic said and added that peace and agreement is what we now need the most.
He wished all Orthodox believers to spend this holiday in peace and joy, surrounded by family and friends.
The statement by the Economic team for Kosovo-Metohija and southern Serbia reminds the public that head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch of Moscow and All of Russia Alexey the Second bestowed the Order of Sergei Radonezhsky on Nenad Popovic on August 25, 2006.
