Kostunica puts 3G network into operation

Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica has released today into commercial use the first network of third mobile phone generation and said that this technology with new ideas, products and services will create new jobs and integrate both Serbia and Telekom Srbija into a modern world family.

In a ceremony held in the premises of MTS mobile network operator, Kostunica recalled Telekom Srbija’s recent acquisition of Telekom Srpske, which is a big investment in Republika Srpska and Bosnia-Herzegovina and also a big contribution of the Republic of Serbia to regional connection and regional economic cooperation.
He stressed that investment power of the Serbian economy is seen in investments in Serbia that are result of business, economic and legal stability and safety in the country, but also capability of investment of the Serbian economy in other countries.
At the same time, Kostunica stressed that Telekom Srbija has done a lot to modernise its network and to invest in the Serbian market, where the company invested more than $800 million in the previous three years.
Kostunica had a first video conversation with singer Zdravko Colic, which was the first video conversation over the 3G phone network. Kostunica wished all citizens of Serbia a happy New Year and a lot of success to Zdravko Colic, who handed over his 300,000th CD to the Prime Minister.

Drasko Petrovic addresses the media
Director General of Telekom Srbija Drasko Petrovic stressed that this company is the first to start using the 3G network in Serbia, thus retaining its leadership position with more than four million users or a 65% share of the market.
In 2006 alone, the number of Telekom Srbija users rose by 800,000, Petrovic said adding that the 3G network will allow introduction of new services and the company’s development.
These services are available in Belgrade, Nis, Novi Sad, Cacak, Uzice, Kragujevac, Krusevac, Kraljevo, Pozarevac, Smederevo, Pancevo, Subotica, Sombor, Bor, Paracin, Vrnjacka Banja, Cuprija, Mt Kopaonik and Mt Zlatibor.
In January 2007, the 3G signal will also be available in Vranje, Leskovac, Sremska Mitrovica, Sabac, Zajecar and Jagodina.
