Vojislav Kostunica
Kostunica told Beta news agency that the Serbian government has warned constantly that ethnic Albanian separatists base their project entirely on exerting violence and terror and explained that this is their only argument with which they threaten the entire international community.
According to Kostunica, breaking up a democratic state and snatching away a part of its territory under the threat of violence would be the most dangerous precedent at the beginning of the 21st century.
The Serbian Prime Minister said that there is no doubt that such a dangerous precedent would have immeasurable long-term consequences on the stability of the entire international order and underlined that the international community is obliged, stemming directly from the UN Charter, to guarantee the inviolability of internationally recognised borders of all European states, including the inviolability of Serbia's borders as well.
As long as the existing UN Charter is in force, no one can ever reach the decision to redraw Serbia's internationally recognised borders. That is why the Serbian government maintains that every solution for Kosovo-Metohija must be in line with the UN Charter, and therefore in line with the Serbian Constitution. That means that the solution must be sought within the borders of the state of Serbia, Kostunica said.
He voiced hope that the moment the entire international community shows firm respect for the UN Charter, the ethnic Albanian community in Kosovo will marginalise separatists and start serious negotiations for reaching a compromising and mutually acceptable solution.
