According to a statement by the Economic Team for Kosovo-Metohija and southern Serbia, Popovic said that the number of applications submitted for funds, which the Serbian government set aside for opening and development of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, shows that this is the right move for the economic development of Serbian communities in Kosovo-Metohija.
This level of interest shows that people have ideas, and it is our duty to help them set up production and, more importantly, to secure a market for their products, said Popovic. He added that in accordance with the Strategy of long term development of Serbian communities in Kosovo-Metohija, funds are intended for companies which do business in all areas and branches of industry.
According to Popovic, special emphasis has been laid on realisation of “Start Up” projects which are intended for self-employment and initiating family businesses since the province has a tradition of small family enterprises, which tend to be self-sustaining.
Popovic recalled that the rate of unemployment is very high in Kosovo-Metohija, and stressed that great attention is being paid to employing the young, especially women, through the project of incentive funds.
The Economic Team for Kosovo-Metohija and southern Serbia has announced the list of candidates for incentive funds from the National Investment Plan on its website, and according to the statement, the applications are being processed, but due to the large number of applications submitted, final results will be announced in the middle of January.
