International mediator for talks on Kosovo is obliged to condemn terrorism

Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica demanded yesterday a response to the question why UN Special Envoy Marti Ahtisaari, according to his mandate and obligations as an international mediator, has not thus far even once condemned terrorism by Albanian separatists.

In a public address Kostunica pointed to the fact that Ahtisaari has a clear duty to immediately and categorically condemn any form of threat, particularly terrorist acts, such as the mining of the Zvecan-Kosovo Polje railroad. He added that we must know what is preventing Ahtisaari from carrying out his duties.
The Serbian Prime Minister recalled that so far Ahtisaari, undoubtedly due to prejudices he finds hard to avoid, has made serious accusations against the entire Serbian nation and at the same time has observed terrorism by Albanian separatists without any comment.
Kostunica stressed that the Serbian government will certainly not be silent regarding the manner in which Ahtisaari is carrying out his duties as an international mediator.
It is of essential importance that the international mediator for talks on Kosovo-Metohija is impartial, objective and ready to sharply condemn any act of terrorism by Albanian separatists, said the Prime Minister.
The Serbian Prime Minister recalled that so far Ahtisaari, undoubtedly due to prejudices he finds hard to avoid, has made serious accusations against the entire Serbian nation and at the same time has observed terrorism by Albanian separatists without any comment.
Kostunica stressed that the Serbian government will certainly not be silent regarding the manner in which Ahtisaari is carrying out his duties as an international mediator.
It is of essential importance that the international mediator for talks on Kosovo-Metohija is impartial, objective and ready to sharply condemn any act of terrorism by Albanian separatists, said the Prime Minister.
