Head of the Economic Team for Kosovo-Metohija and southern Serbia Nenad Popovic and President of the Coordinating Centre for Kosovo-Metohija Sanda Raskovic-Ivic will hold talks tomorrow in Pristina with UNMIK chief Joachim Rucker on the humanitarian supply of electricity to Serb enclaves in the province, and other economic problems.
In a statement to the news agency Tanjug, Popovic stressed that humanitarian supply of 50 million kilowatts per hour of electricity monthly by the Serbian government to the Serb community in Kosovo-Metohija is the only way to alleviate the serious energy crisis in the southern Serbian province.
He stressed that during the previous 15 days the positions of Serbian experts in the energy sector and UNMIK on technical modalities of electricity supply have become significantly closer, and expressed expectation that the meeting tomorrow will be a new step in the process of solving these problems.
Popovic said that the formation of a joint team of experts for running the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK) will also be discussed at the meeting. He added that Serbian experts, who have already proved their excellent knowledge of the energy sector in the province, would have an important role to play in the team.
Speaking on the suspension of telecommunication links of Serbian mobile telephony in Kosovo-Metohija, Popovic said that it will be demanded from UNMIK chief that he uses his authority and jurisdiction to prevent damage to the equipment of the company in the southern Serbian province.
He said that close cooperation between Serbs, ethnic-Albanians and UNMIK is the only way to achieve sustainable development in Kosovo-Metohija and solve the economic problems which directly affect the lives of people in the province.
