Advisor of the Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Simic said today that the Serbian government expects that the will of the United States to have good relations with Serbia will be grounded in its respect of Serbia’s internationally recognised borders and its territorial integrity.
Following an interview of US special envoy to negotiations on Kosovo's future status Frank Wiesner to Vecernje Novosti daily, Simic said that Wiesner’s statement that the US would like that the two countries continue cherishing good relations is encouraging.
He explained to Tanjug that this should imply that the US, following the UN Charter, will respect sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia, which excludes any possibility of creating a new Albanian state.
Simic added that the will of the absolute majority in Serbia shown in the referendum on the Serbian new Constitution is clear and that it is impossible to allow Kosovo-Metohija’s independence. He also warned that any legal violence that would seize Kosovo would only create a big new problem.
