The new suture factory in Prokuplje, which will cover an area of 7,000 square metres, will be constructed by August 2007, with an investment worth €11.9 million and will employ 230 workers during the upcoming three years.
Milosavljevic said that 20% of overall production will be exported during the first year when the factory becomes operational, while in 2009 the export of suture should rise to 50%, and export of infusion solution, infusion sets and surgical gloves and syringes should stand at 10% of production.
Matic stated that the suture factory in Prokuplje will lead to annual savings in the Serbian budget worth €35 million, which is the sum set aside for these products.
She pointed to the fact that, with the exception of Ukraine and Russia, such a factory does not exist anywhere in the territory of the former Yugoslavia and Eastern Europe.
The signing of the contract was also attended by owner of the German company Birkmaier Projekt Gmbh Manfred Birkmaier, who has given Marax Group the license for production of suture.
Birkmaier said that the company Birkmaier Projekt will invest €1.4 million in the new factory, thus becoming co-owner of the new enterprise with a majority ownership stake in domestic capital. He pointed out that the aim of his company is to construct a centre of medical technology in Prokuplje.
