Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said today that the Serbian government’s policy on the issue of Kosovo-Metohija is clear and principled and that international law and the UN Charter cannot be violated at will, so that the beginning of the new century is marked by the forceful breakup of a democratic European state.

In a statement to the news agency Tanjug, Kostunica said that it is to be absolutely expected that since Serbia’s position is so clear on the issue, more and more countries will take a stand against the very dangerous idea of forcefully seizing a part of Serbia’s territory to break up the country.
He stressed that Serbia highly values the support of all the increasing number of countries for respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia, because any other solution would lead to destabilisation beyond the region.
According to Kostunica, the Serbian government considers that NATO member countries must take great care to harmonise their policies with the UN SC Resolution 1244 and principles of international law, since NATO is responsible for military action against Serbia which was not decided upon by the Security Council. He added that any new one-sided decision by NATO member countries regarding Kosovo-Metohija would have unpredictable consequences.
