In an interview to Russian daily "Vremja Novostej", Popovic warned that possible recognition of independent Kosovo would be a threat to Europe and pose the danger of the redrawing of borders.
Today, as never before, the international community is so close to resolving the issue of Kosovo-Metohija, opening real perspectives to ethnic Albanians, securing the widest autonomy, and assisting in the resolution of socio-economic problems, but this must occur within the borders of Serbia, the head of the Economic team said.
Concrete elements of that autonomy should be negotiated, however Serbia is against proposals which imply that the Kosovo government should have a foreign minister, defence minister and a national bank governor.
He thanked Moscow on its principled stance on Kosovo, which confirms the soundness of international-legal institutes, international legislation, and protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.
