Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior in a caretaker capacity Ivica Dačić met today in Moscow with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov, concluding a two-day official visit to that country.
The open and friendly discussion focused on bilateral relations, as well as current regional and international issues, with particular emphasis on the current situation in Kosovo and Metohija, and on further steps to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.
During the meeting, Dačić briefed his counterpart on the current state of the dialogue between Belgrade and Priština, highlighting the extremely difficult situation on the ground, as well as the persistent unilateral pressures, mistreatment, and persecution faced by the Serbian people in the southern Serbian province.
The Deputy Prime Minister reiterated that Serbia remains absolutely committed to the strict observance of the United Nations Charter and UN Security Council Resolution 1244, which serve as the sole legal framework for protecting Serbia’s national interests.
He expressed his gratitude to the Russian Federation for its principled, firm and consistent support for Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, for ensuring a stable gas supply, and for the recent assistance provided to our country in extinguishing wildfires through the deployment of an Ilyushin aircraft.
Lavrov reiterated that Russia provides unwavering support to Serbia in preserving its territorial integrity, emphasising that, on the international stage, Moscow accepts only a solution for Kosovo and Metohija that is fully acceptable to Serbia and that protects the legitimate national interests of the Serbian people.
The two sides expressed great mutual satisfaction with the dynamic development of bilateral relations and cooperation within the multilateral arena.
