Completion of works on new railway line to Expo complex by year-end

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in a caretaker capacity Siniša Mali announced today that all construction works on the new railway line from Zemun Polje via Nikola Tesla Airport to the National Stadium, extending to the site of next year’s Specialised Expo, will be completed by the end of the year.

Mali and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure in a caretaker capacity Aleksandra Sofronijević took a test ride along the new line from the Zemun Polje railway station to the airport, an 11-kilometre section, to inspect the progress of the works.

All construction works on the railway line to the National Stadium, covering the entire 18.3-kilometer route, will be finished by the end of the year, Mali stated.

He expressed his expectation that the new section will fully open in March or April next year, noting that this will provide the Expo site with a rail link to the city centre.

Sofronijević specified that the line is being built for speeds of 120 kilometres per hour and is intended exclusively for passenger traffic.

She stated that state-of-the-art electric motor trains, which will operate on the line, are already en route to Serbia and will be arriving successively between November and early March.
