Gratitude to EU countries for assistance in extinguishing fires in Serbia

Belgrade, 23 August 2026

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić visited today, at a base of the Helicopter Unit of the Serbian Ministry of the Interior, international fire and rescue teams from Romania, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, deployed through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism to extinguish fires in the Deliblato Sands.

As part of international assistance through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, a total of four rescEU Black Hawk helicopters were deployed in Serbia – two from the Czech Republic with 13 crew members and technical staff, one from Slovakia with seven crew members and one from Romania with four crew members.

In addition, a Romanian fire and rescue team with vehicles arrived at the operations base in Bela Crkva, where they will join the activities on the ground. This team has 69 members and 15 vehicles.

International assistance will be further expanded by the deployment of a fire and rescue team from the Federal Republic of Germany, with 56 members and 24 vehicles whose arrival is expected tomorrow, on 24 August.
