Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić saw off today, at the Helicopter Unit Base of the Ministry of the Interior, a helicopter and a fire and rescue team from the Emergency Situations Sector, which were sent to Spain to help extinguish large forest fires, which have led to a national state of emergency in that country since 24 July.

The "Super Puma H-215" helicopter with five crew members and one liaison officer, as well as a fire and rescue team with 37 fire-fighters and three members of the medical support team, will be deployed in the area of the city of Navalcarnero, near the Spanish capital, as part of the international assistance sent by Serbia to Spain through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
Dačić emphasised that Spain, together with France, is facing one of the most severe forest fire seasons in recent decades, which is why they have requested international assistance.
Our team of fire-fighters consists of people from Belgrade, Niš, Kraljevo, Šabac, Čačak, Valjevo, Pančevo and Smederevo, with a total of 16 vehicles, one ATV vehicle and two trailers, the Deputy Prime Minister stated.
He also pointed out that Spain, a friendly country with which we have excellent relations, has not recognised the independence of "Kosovo".
Recalling the fact that there were 39,757 interventions last year, which is the highest number of interventions recorded by the Sector in the last 20 years, and that 1,492 people were saved, he once again praised the readiness and humanity of the fire-fighters - rescuers.
