Dulic-Markovic said that education, science and innovation should become Serbia's strategic priority, because a good economic policy, political infrastructure and administration are not sufficient without educated individuals.
She stated that it is the state's obligation to create a framework for lifelong learning and advanced training, which are the only guarantee for increasing employment and competitiveness on the market. According to her, the new programme of the EU "Integrated programme of lifelong learning" will be of great benefit for Serbia, which is intended for continuous advanced training of adults.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that it is particularly important to begin negotiations on visa regime relaxation for Serbian citizens and voiced hope that the mandate for these negotiations will soon be approved.
Dulic-Markovic stressed that Serbia is actively preparing for negotiations and recalled that the negotiating team and a working group have already been formed for preparation for negotiations on concluding the agreement on visa relaxations.
Figel stressed that the European Commission gives prime importance to high level education in cooperation with south eastern European countries. During the talks he presented new programmes for strengthening cooperation between the EU and Serbia in the area of education, and announced that there will be a larger number of grants for students and scientists from Serbia.
