Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić attended today a ceremony marking World Refugee Day and 50 years of work of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the Republic of Serbia.
Dačić recalled that the Ministry of the Interior and the UNHCR are successfully cooperating on the development and improvement of the asylum system and that, thanks to joint efforts, a stable legislative and institutional framework has been established and the capacities of the competent institutions and migration management system have been strengthened in accordance with international standards and best practices.
He emphasised that the Border Police Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior has an important role in protecting the state border and the security of citizens, while ensuring respect for human rights and access to international protection for all persons in need.
He also referred to resolving the issue of internally displaced persons from Kosovo and Metohija and refugees from the former SFRY and their integration, stating that in the context of migration, Serbia is open to all those seeking safety in it.
I am convinced that, with the support of our international partners and through continued successful cooperation, we will continue to respond responsibly, professionally and humanely to the challenges of the modern era in the future, in accordance with the highest international standards and values that we share, Dačić stated.
