Joint campaign by Serbia, North Macedonia for safer travel

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dačić and Minister of the Interior of the Republic of North Macedonia Panche Toshkovski today visited the joint Preševo-Tabanovce border crossing as part of the Drive Rested joint road safety campaign.

During the visit, Dačić emphasised that the establishment of this joint border crossing has delivered significant results in border cooperation between the two countries, as evidenced by the fact that between 20,000 and 30,000 passengers pass through it daily.

He noted that the campaign aims to raise drivers’ awareness of the importance of driving while well rested, taking regular breaks and behaving responsibly behind the wheel to reduce the number of road traffic accidents.

Toshkovski also praised cooperation between the two countries in the field of border control, assessing that the reform of operations at the joint border crossing is an example of successful regional cooperation.

Acting Director of Serbia’s Road Traffic Safety Agency Branko Stamatović said that fatigue is one of the main causes of road traffic accidents during the summer months, recommending that drivers set out only when well rested and in good health, and plan their journey carefully.
