A statement by the Economic teams reads that Popovic talked today in Beijing with Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Quan, Deputy Director-General of the Department of European Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Wei Jinghua and Assistant Minister of Trade Yu Guangzhou.
Kong Quan stressed that China is against setting deadlines for the resolution of Kosovo's status, as well as against imposing a solution because it has to be a result of agreement of the two sides. He underlined that the quality of the solution is much more important than the pace of its adoption.
Popovic thanked Chinese officials on China's persevering and principled politics and pointed to its important role in the consistent respect for international law and the principle of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The head of the Economic team said during the talks that the economic and security situation in Kosovo-Metohija is disastrous and that Serbs there are deprived of the right to free movement.
The officials also touched on the issues of importance such as the referendum on the new Constitution of Serbia and Serbia's improving economic situation. Popovic invited the Chinese officials to visit the south of Serbia together with a delegation of businessmen.
He said that in the next year alone the Serbian government will invest €100 million in the development of the economy of southern Serbia's municipalities, which along with the benefits for investors will make that region a very attractive place for large foreign investments.
