The suspicious objects were located in the immediate vicinity of the gas pipeline, i.e. the gas infrastructure connecting the Republic of Serbia and Hungary.
Based on the order of the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Subotica, a blockade and search of the terrain at the listed locations were carried out.
Members of the Criminal Police Directorate, the Criminal Investigation Group of the Military Police, members of the 72nd Special Operations Brigade, the Security and Information Agency and the Military Security Agency participated in the operation.
The competent Higher Public Prosecutor's Office conducted an investigation and the aforementioned act was legally qualified as a criminal offence under Article 348 of the Criminal Code - unauthorised production, possession, carrying and trafficking of weapons and explosives, paragraph 3 in conjunction with paragraph 2, bearing in mind that this involves a larger quantity of means of great destructive power, in conjunction with the criminal offence under Article 313 of the Criminal Code – attempted sabotage.
Members of the security forces continue to work on the ground with the aim of finding additional clues, as well as identifying and prosecuting persons who may be linked to this event.
The Ministry of Defence will continue to take all measures to preserve the safety of citizens and protect the vital infrastructure of the Republic of Serbia, in association with other competent authorities, the statement said.
