Continued government support for athletes, sports organisations

Belgrade, 23 March 2026

Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, and Minister of Sport Zoran Gajić discussed today with President of the Olympic Committee of Serbia Dejan Tomašević and Director of the Anti-Doping Agency, Prof. Dr Milica Vukašinović Vesić improving conditions for the development of sports and further support for top athletes.

Macut underlined that sport is one of the key segments of social development and a significant factor in the international affirmation of the Republic of Serbia, and that the government will continue to provide support to athletes and sports organisations.

The meeting also addressed preparations for hosting the meeting of the Executive Committee of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in Belgrade, given the importance of the event.

The Prime Minister initiated the establishment of an advisory body in the field of sports medicine within the Olympic Committee of Serbia with the aim of preserving the health of athletes.

The interlocutors agreed that it is necessary to continue to further improve cooperation between the line institutions, the Olympic Committee of Serbia and the Anti-Doping Agency, as well as to implement measures that will enable the further development of sports and create conditions for new successes of Serbian athletes on the international stage.
