Macut stressed that this represents a victory of reason, dialogue and the work of people who connect Europe on a daily basis.
He noted that the agreement was reached thanks to the efforts of the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, the Ministry of European Integration and the respective ministers – Aleksandra Sofronijević and Nemanja Starović – as well as the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, the traffic and border police administrations, and the Customs Administration.
The Prime Minister said that this is an important step forward for Serbian drivers and hauliers who have borne the burden of the European economy for years, adding that talks will continue until a final solution is reached.
According to him, Serbia has persistently and with well-founded arguments pointed to the unsustainability of the 90/180 rule.
The Prime Minister’s Office welcomed the decision of the hauliers, who stated that the European Commission has, for the first time, clearly and unequivocally announced that professional drivers constitute a special category of workers requiring a longer stay in the territory of the EU than 90 days within a 180-day period.
As of today, from 15:00, hauliers are resuming transport operations following a five-day blockade of border crossings.
