Minister for Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue Demo Beriša spoke today with OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Christophe Kamp and Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia Marcel Peško about current activities and challenges in the field of protection and promotion of the rights of national minorities in Serbia.

Cooperation to continue with OSCE on promotion of national minorities’ rights

Beriša introduced the interlocutors to the government’s priorities in this area, emphasising that preserving the multinational and multicultural character of our society is one of the state’s strategic goals.
He particularly emphasised that the Ministry is committed to an open dialogue, transparency and cooperation with all relevant partners, including the OSCE, which is an important ally in the process of improving the position of national minorities.
The interlocutors exchanged views on the further improvement of the legislative framework, strengthening the representation of minorities in public life, and the importance of preserving their cultural identity and supporting information in minority languages.
An agreement was reached to continue close cooperation and regular exchange of information, in order to ensure the full implementation of international standards and further progress in the field of human and minority rights in Serbia.
