Finance Minister Dinkic presents new cigarette excise stamp

Serbian Minister of Finance Mladjan Dinkic visited Nis today where he toured retail outlets closed for illegal cigarette sales and presented a new cigarette excise stamp at the Duvanska Industrija Nis (DIN) tobacco plant.
The new stamp has a hologram and a watermark, and is hard to forge, said Dinkic, adding that new excise stamps will be introduced in three months.
The government is making every effort to curb cigarette smuggling, the Minister said, noting that the state collected five billion dinars in tobacco product excise tax in the first five months of the year.
DIN officials welcomed the preparation of new legislation aimed at cracking down on illegal cigarette sales.
It is in the interest of both sides to curb illegal cigarette sales, said Dinkic, adding that DIN covers 68 percent of the local cigarette market.
As part of his visit to Nis, Dinkic also met with local businessmen to discuss loans for small and medium-sized enterprises and the setting-up of a guarantee fund, and attended a public debate on draft laws on corporate profit tax and value-added tax (VAT).
