Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović emphasised today that the state’s priority is to ensure a reliable and even supply of oil derivatives to the domestic market, while awaiting a response from the United States administration.
During a meeting with representatives of MOL Serbia, EKO Serbia, OMV Serbia and the Secretary-General of the Association of Oil Companies of Serbia, with whom she discussed the stability of oil derivatives supply, Đedović Handanović underlined that it is an obligation to ensure that every filling station, wholesale buyer and citizen has sufficient fuel for their needs, and that this will be fulfilled.
According to her, these companies are important for supply stability because they are the largest importers of oil derivatives in Serbia and supply most of the market, after NIS.
Đedović Handanović said that the import of derivatives in December would follow market demand, logistics and available capacities, noting that it is expected to proceed according to plan and that supply will remain stable.
The Minister pointed out that the state is prepared to use mandatory reserves of oil derivatives to maintain supply stability, should that be necessary.
She added that in December and January, 20,000 tonnes of Euro diesel and 38,000 tonnes of petrol will arrive for the needs of the state’s mandatory energy reserves, in order to further ensure the security of supply.
We need to think strategically, as we have done so far. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and government representatives are holding intensive diplomatic talks with neighbouring countries and representatives of the European Union, so that refineries in the region increase the share of oil derivatives to be delivered to meet the needs of the Serbian market, the Minister said.
Đedović Handanović recalled that various scenarios and plans have been developed, with clearly defined responsibilities regarding the sanctions against oil company Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS), and that the state is prepared and will take steps to preserve the stability of oil derivatives supply while negotiations on the ownership of NIS continue.
