Improving normative framework for more effective protection of women from digital violence

Belgrade, 24 November 2025

Minister of Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue Demo Beriša announced today that the ministry will continue to improve the normative, strategic and institutional framework, with the support of international partners, to ensure more effective protection of women and girls in the digital sphere.

In the introductory part of the International Conference “Break the Silence – Together!”, Beriša emphasised that we all have an obligation to create a society in which every woman and girl feels safe, respected and protected.

According to him, this conference is an important step in that direction because it allows for the exchange of knowledge, experiences and good practices and to jointly build a more responsible, humane and equitable society.

Given that girls and young women are the most common targets of digital violence, the focus must be on education, prevention and strengthening the competencies of teachers and parents, the Minister emphasised, pointing to the significant role of the media, digital platforms and the private sector in preventing digital violence.

The conference was organised by the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue, in cooperation with the OSCE Mission to Serbia and the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, as part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence global campaign.
