Official statistics are a key element of the state’s information system in all modern societies, because, respecting the principle of professional independence, they provide users, i.e., state bodies, business entities and the public, with impartial and high-quality data on economic, demographic, social and environmental protection occurences.
Statistics are expected to be a transparent, efficient, professionally independent system, which is needed by citizens, business entities and other users.
Statistics should provide objective data on society and economic developments in the country, as well as high-quality and timely data to the government, ministries, bodies of autonomous provinces and bodies of local self-government units, so that they can perform their functions efficiently and effectively, and their decisions are based on reliable data.
By adopting these legal solutions, the field of official statistics is harmonized with European regulations, namely the European Statistical System, thereby contributing to the country’s European integration.
