Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić spoke today, at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing, with Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the People’s Republic of China General Zhang Youxia.

Gašić said that the support that China provides to our country in defending its territorial integrity and sovereignty is particularly important, since we are witnessing daily violations of fundamental human rights and principles based on the UN Charter in Kosovo and Metohija by the provisional institutions of Priština.
He emphasised that Serbia has a key role in maintaining the stability of our region and that it advocates the peaceful resolution of disputes, mutual understanding and dialogue as the basic mechanism for preserving peace in Southeast Europe.
The Minister added that Serbia believes in the principle of strengthening its own defence capabilities with the aim of repelling potential security threats and preserving stability, and expressed his expectation that the excellent cooperation between the two countries in the military-technical field will continue to the mutual benefit.
The Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission stressed that today’s meeting was an opportunity for a constructive discussion in the field of defence in order to further strengthen the cooperation of our armed forces.
The tete-a-tete talks were followed by a meeting of the delegations of Serbia and the People’s Republic of China dedicated to bilateral military cooperation between the two countries.
On the second day of the visit, Gašić, together with the delegation of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, visited the Museum of the Communist Party of China.
