Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić spoke in Beijing, on the first day of his official visit to the People’s Republic of China, with Chinese Minister of Defence Dong Jun about improving military-economic, military-to-military, military-educational and military-medical cooperation.

At the meeting of the delegations, held after the ceremony with the national anthems played, Gašić expressed gratitude to his interlocutor for the warm welcome, emphasising the importance of this visit and the talks, which will contribute to the further improvement of cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries.
He also expressed gratitude for the support that the People’s Republic of China provides to Serbia on the issue of the status of Kosovo and Metohija, adding that the unilateral declaration of independence of a part of our territory is contrary to international law and agreements, as well as Resolution 1244 of the United Nations Security Council.
Gašić assessed that cooperation in the field of defence is constantly growing, and that the procurement of weapons and military equipment from the People’s Republic of China has contributed to a significant improvement in the operational capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces.
During the meeting, the possibilities of the two armies participating in joint activities that improve capabilities were discussed.
The Minister of Defence of the People’s Republic of China said that today’s meeting confirmed the strategic partnership between Serbia and the People’s Republic of China, and that cooperation in the field of defence is based on mutual respect and understanding, which further strengthens the overall relations between the two militaries and the two peoples.
