In a substantive conversation, representatives of the University of Niš informed the Prime Minister about the results of the enrolment of new students in study programmes implemented by members of this university after two enrolment periods, and the expectations that, after the third enrolment period, which ends this week, the number of newly enrolled students will be at the level of last year.
They noted that high school graduates showed little interest in enrolling in studies that provide qualifications for work in primary and secondary schools.
The deans presented their observations on the compensation of teaching and the success of organising examination periods in the 2024/2025 school year, as well as the readiness for the start of the next academic year 2025/2026 in the headquarters of higher education institutions in the usual manner, but also on the organisational, spatial and material challenges that higher education institutions face in their work.
Representatives of the Government of Serbia announced special intensive discussions and workshops on the topic of including higher education institutions in the budget execution system of the Republic of Serbia, namely the System for Preparation, Execution, Accounting and Reporting (SPIRI).
In the discussion dedicated to the development of the University of Niš, the importance of the participation of researchers from this university in international projects within the framework of the Horizon Europe and Erasmus+ programmes, as well as domestic scientific projects under calls announced by the Science Fund, was particularly emphasised.
In the coming weeks, the Prime Minister will continue to hold meetings with representatives of state universities and other higher education institutions in order to ensure the normalisation of the teaching process at higher education institutions and to continue discussions on improving the quality of higher education, especially initial teacher education.
Today’s meeting with representatives of the University of Niš was attended by the Minister of Education, Professor Dejan Vuk Stanković, PhD.
