Serbia, European Commission continue to advance cooperation under Horizon Europe programme

Belgrade/Podgorica, 21 October 2025

Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation Academician Bela Balint presented today, during a meeting with European Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation Ekaterina Zaharieva, Serbia’s priorities in these areas, with a particular focus on the development of scientific and research infrastructure.

On the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting of the Western Balkans Steering Platform on Research and Innovation in Podgorica, they also discussed further improvement of cooperation between Serbia and the European Commission, especially within the framework of the Horizon Europe programme, in which over 500 people have participated so far, as well as initiatives that contribute to the integration of the Western Balkans research community into the European research area.

The officials also praised the positive report on the European Research Area, which assesses the progress of EU and associated countries in implementing the European Research Area policy.
